MCP link building: MOTHERLINK PRO inside your AI assistant
Most SEO managers we know have an AI assistant open all day. It drafts briefs, cleans up keyword lists and rewrites the client email for the third time. Then, when it’s time to find sites and place orders, everyone switches tabs.
From now on, you don’t have to. MCP link building means connecting your assistant to MOTHERLINK PRO, so it can research sites, fill your basket, prepare orders, follow placements and message your account manager in the conversation you’re already having.
Your assistant is you, through a different door. It works in your account, with your projects, prices, basket and orders. Nothing more.
Key takeaways
Paste one link into Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Gemini, log in and press Allow. No API keys, no developer.
Your assistant uses MOTHERLINK’s site recommendations or your own rules. It can also work with Search Console, Ahrefs or Analytics, and run on a schedule.
Ordering from your balance is off by default. Even when it’s on, nothing is bought without your yes.
What MCP link building actually looks like
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to outside tools and act in them, instead of only talking about them.
Without it, ask your assistant about link building and you get the advice from every 2019 blog post: relevance, DR, natural anchors. With MOTHERLINK PRO connected, it works with live data from your account and follows the same six steps you know from the platform:
Project: “Create a project for acme.com” and the assistant gets your site analysed.
Market: it searches sites by niche, language, country, price and metrics.
Basket: it adds sites and sets who writes each article.
Balance: it checks your prepaid funds and offers a top-up if they’re short.
Order: it shows a full preview, and the order goes in after your “Looks good. Place it.”
Live link: the article is published and you get the URL.
Setup takes about a minute
Open Account → MCP in MOTHERLINK PRO and copy the link. It’s the same for everyone.
Add it to your assistant as a custom connector. In Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, name it MOTHERLINK PRO, paste the link.
Log in if asked and press Allow on the MOTHERLINK PRO page.
On that page you also choose whether the assistant may place orders from your balance. It’s off by default. Off, the assistant prepares the order and you press Order on the platform. On, it places the order after you confirm in the chat.
Your password never reaches the AI, and neither do card or bank details.

The Claude MCP and ChatGPT MCP setups work the same way as Codex and Gemini: same link, same sign-in, same Allow screen. Only the place where you add the connector differs, and Account → MCP has a short guide for each.
Assistant | Where you add it |
|---|---|
Claude | Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector |
ChatGPT | Plugins → Add custom MCP server |
Codex | Settings → MCP servers |
Gemini | Settings → Connected Apps (currently personal accounts in the US only) |
Any other assistant that accepts a custom MCP server should work too. To disconnect, go back to Account → MCP. Each app is listed separately and disconnects with one click.

What an AI assistant for link building can do
The assistant has 30+ actions across the platform:
Area | What you can ask for |
|---|---|
Projects | Create a project from a URL and read its authority, traffic, keywords, top countries and competitors. |
Finding sites | Search the Market by any metric. See Top matches and the newest sites for your project. |
Basket and ordering | Add and remove sites, see totals with discounts, preview and place orders. |
Content | Per placement: we write the article, your manager decides, or you share your own Google Doc. |
Tracking | Order progress, campaign stats, and what’s waiting for you: articles, live links, price changes. |
Link insertions | Send requests with pages and anchors, review offers, reject or restore one, pause or stop. |
Billing | Balance, invoices, bank-transfer top-ups, company details verified on the spot. |
Messages | Read order and campaign chats and write to your account manager. |
You can ask in your own words. “DR”, “Turkey” or “Türkiye”, “en”, “casino” all work. If something doesn’t match, the platform answers with the real options instead of an error. Each request comes back in about a tenth of a second, so the slowest part of the conversation will be you.
How your assistant picks sites
This is the question every SEO asks after the first shortlist. There are two layers, and you control both.
MOTHERLINK’s built-in AI recommendation. Each project gets a recommendation built from its own data, and it updates when the data changes. For a German travel site, it might read: German-language travel sites in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, DR 40+ with real traffic, 6-8 links a month, skip sites that mostly publish paid posts.
Your own rules. Write them once in your assistant’s instructions, and they apply before the recommendation. For example:
At least 5,000 organic visits a month.
DR 35+ and no more than €250 a link.
Family travel topics first.
No coupon, casino or news-aggregator sites.
Not sure why a site made the list? Ask “how did you pick these?” The assistant shows its reasoning and which part came from MOTHERLINK.

Prompts you could type today
The Monday check-in. “What’s waiting for me in MOTHERLINK?” One answer covers articles to review, live links to check and price changes to approve, across all running orders.
Working to a budget. “I have €1,500. Find the best English-language SaaS sites I can get for that and tell me how close I am to the next volume discount.”
New sites. “Any new sites for my travel project this week? Add anything under €200 to my basket.”
Link insertions. “Request link insertions for my pricing page with the anchors ‘CRM software’ and ‘best CRM’, DR 50 or higher.” Later: “Show me the offers and reject the off-topic ones.”
Notes to your manager. “Tell my manager on the last order that the anchor for the second placement should be ‘online accounting’.” It lands in that order’s chat, where your manager already has the context.

Combine MOTHERLINK PRO with your other SEO tools
The bigger change comes when MOTHERLINK PRO is one of several tools connected to the same assistant. It reads your rankings, competitors’ backlinks or conversions in one tool and acts on them in MOTHERLINK PRO. Without MCP, each job below is an export, a spreadsheet and an afternoon of copy-paste.
You can connect Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Google Analytics, Google Sheets and Docs, Slack, Notion, Gmail and Drive. Each tool has its own sign-in, and orders still need your yes.
Push “almost ranking” pages onto page one (Search Console). “Find our pages in positions 8 to 20 with the most impressions over the last 3 months. For the top three, request link insertions in MOTHERLINK, using the queries they already rank for as anchors.” Pages on page two already have some trust for those queries, which makes them one of the best places to spend a link budget.
Close the backlink gap (Ahrefs). “List the sites that link to competitor-one.com and competitor-two.com but not to us. Check which are available in MOTHERLINK and what they cost. For the rest, find similar sites in the same niche and DR range.” A gap analysis usually ends in a spreadsheet and weeks of outreach emails. This one ends in a priced shortlist you can order in the same chat.
Build links to the pages that make money (Google Analytics). “Which landing pages brought the most conversions last quarter but get fewer than 500 organic visits a month? Plan links for them within €2,000.” That’s an easier conversation with a boss or client than “we built 20 links this month”.
Reports and team updates (Sheets, Docs, Notion, Slack). “Put every link that went live this month in Q4 Authority Push into a Google Sheet with URL, target page, anchor, DR and cost, then write a client summary in a Doc.” You can swap the Sheet for your Notion tracker, or post a weekly status to #seo in Slack. The numbers come straight from the platform, so there are no copy-paste mistakes.
Briefs from your own files (Gmail, Drive). “Here is our content calendar. Suggest which three articles deserve backlinks this month, find matching sites and draft the briefs.” The same works with a strategy doc in Drive or a client brief in Gmail. The judgement stays yours. The assistant does the legwork.

Let it run while your laptop is closed
Any AI agent that can use an MCP connector can sign in once with the same link and work on its own schedule. A few we like:
Monday 08:00, weekly link report: checks which links went live and sends the summary.
Daily 07:00, new-sites scout: looks for new sites that fit your projects and budget.
Friday 16:00, order prep: gets the week’s order ready for your review.
Each agent shows up separately in Account → MCP, with ordering off until you turn it on for that agent. You can disconnect any of them there in one click.

“An AI that can spend my money?” Here’s how it’s built
Every SEO manager we showed this to asked that first. Fair question. These are the rules:
Ordering is off by default, per app and per agent, until you switch it on.
Nothing is bought without your yes. You see a full preview first. Before placing, the order is checked again, and if a price or item changed, nothing is ordered.
Look-ups run freely, changes need approval. Searching projects, the Market and orders just happens. Basket changes, orders, messages and billing wait for your OK.
It sees what you see. Anything outside your workspace comes back as “not found”, and only team members with payments access can order or top up.
Messages go out in your name only after your OK.
No passwords, cards or bank details in the chat. An AI can never create an account: access always starts with a real person pressing Allow.
Some things stay on the platform on purpose: approving articles and live links, uploading files, card payments, cancelling or deleting anything, and managing team members. The assistant will tell you an article is waiting. Reading it is still your job, and we think that’s the right split.
Who gets the most out of it
Agencies and in-house SEOs running many projects will feel it first: research, ordering and reporting in one conversation instead of a dozen tabs. If you belong to several workspaces, the assistant asks which one you mean.
Founders and marketers get results without learning another interface. And none of this replaces the platform. Start in chat and finish in MOTHERLINK PRO, or the other way round. It’s the same account, the same basket and the same orders.
MCP link building puts your link work in the chat where you already plan everything else, with your rules and your yes on every order.
